Matching rules
Tell LinkBackfill what makes two records related.
Start with a shared value
Choose values that represent the same thing on both sides. A stable reference can be easier to check than a label that different people type differently.
Select a matching rule from the options available in the editor. Do not assume every column type supports the same comparisons or transformations.
Inspect representative records
- A record you expect to match exactly one other record.
- A record with no corresponding match.
- Records that share the same comparison value.
- Records with missing or inconsistent values.
Review these examples in Scan & Preview. If the proposed relationships are unexpected, adjust the rule or source data and scan again.
Avoid assumptions
Do not rely on a particular duplicate, blank-value, case, or whitespace behavior without checking the configured rule and preview. A rule that works for one pair of boards may need adjustment for another.
